Rudbeckia, Black eyed Susan or Black eyed Susie is a native North American plant of meadows and light woodland. They flower in late summer and autumn and add a welcome spectacular burst of color blending particularly well with autumnal colors of browns, reds and russets. Good as cut flowers.
They don't like soil that dries out, but appreciate heavy soils (even clay) where they will grow well. Generally tall plants of 24 to 36 inches, there are some shorter varieties that are easier to fit into many planting schemes.
Some are half hardy annuals while some are hardy perennials, make sure you know which kind you are buying. Grow some and give your garden a spectacular touch of the prairie.
