Tolerant of drought and poor sandy soils
Gaillardias have wonderfully bright and cheerful daisy-like flowers carried on long stems that usually require staking. They are happy in full sun and fairly unfussy about the fertility of the soil, though prefer it to be well-drained rather than heavy.
Height from 10 to 24 inches depending on variety with a similar spread.
In cooler climates they can be cut back to within 6 inches of the ground in late summer to generate new growth which usually over winters well. Gaillardia can be propagated by division in spring or root cuttings over winter.
